I did chair massage at Natural Grocers in Kalispell for about a year, and when I wasn’t busy do massage, I would go through their magazines, books, and medical journals.  I also would pester the staff with questions, and I’d like to share with you a few of the most important things I learned:

1.  Multi-vitamins do not contain enough minerals.  Minerals are bulky, and if they put the rda of each mineral in a multivitamin, that pill would be HUGE.  Therefore it’s important to take a multi-mineral in addition to your multivitamin.  You will find way fewer multimineral options on the shelf compared to multivits, and many of them are in liquid form.  Find a good tablet or capsule from a reputable company.

2.  Want a fat burner?  EFA’s, (essential fatty acids) Omega 3-6-9 are one of your best friends.  No need to have separate fish oil, coconut oil, and flax oil, you can find bottles of capsules saying “Total EFA” or something similar.

3.  Women, do you know what phytoestrogen is?  Plant based balance pills, groove on baby!  Quality health food stores will carry a few options, get on board.

4.  And of course me being a massage therapist, we’ve got to mention muscles.  If you’re in pain, muscles are always sore, consider your magnesium intake.  Calcium and magnesium in general need to be a 2-1 ratio for ya, meaning you’d need about 50mg of mag if you take 100mg of cal.  They are SO important to determine what balance is best for you, play around, consider whether you’re usually drinking hard or soft water, and always buy quality brands.  You get what you pay for with vitamins, cheaper brands will just be excreted through the urine, so spend the xtra cash and buy the good stuff.  Alrighty people, who hid my Flintstone gummies??
